It's not as small as a real thumbtack--but almost.I plugged it into my iPod and it worked flawlessly from the get-go.But there is a noticeable buzz in the recordings. A noise like this may come from an imperfect contact, but no amount of twisting and wiggling the microphone got rid of it.Well, besides that it was. Cheaper than any other recording device I looked at, and I could pull the sound recordings right into iTunes and use them as any other audio file.It is a good thing..
